Jasmine Coan, known professionally as DJ Bella J, is a DJ and educator using Hip-Hop culture to expand how learning and skill development are approached. Based in Syracuse, New York, she has built a career that bridges music, teaching, and community impact. After earning degrees from Cazenovia College and Le Moyne College, she transitioned from the business field into DJing, training at Scratch DJ Academy. She has performed internationally across corporate events, festivals, schools, and community spaces. Her performance credits include opening for Ice Cube and Fetty Wap, and sharing platforms with DJ Scratch and Mister Cee. She is the founder of On The One, Central New York’s first DJ education center, created to train and mentor aspiring DJs and expand access to music education. Through this work, she has developed programs, led large-scale community initiatives, and created new entry points into DJing for underrepresented youth. She is also the creator of More Than The Mix (MTTM), an educational framework that positions DJing as a pathway for developing leadership, self-awareness, workforce skills, and community revitalization. Her work challenges traditional views of education by positioning Hip-Hop culture as both a teaching tool and a legitimate field of study. DJ Bella J now works with educators and organizations to implement this approach through curriculum and instruction, establishing DJing as a practical and credible method within education.
