Free Guidelines Workshops
The Hip-Hop Education Center invites educators, teaching artists, and cultural workers to join a free four-part workshop series exploring the K–12 Hip-Hop Music Education Guidelines. Each session connects Hip-Hop culture to classroom practice through creative, culturally responsive teaching strategies.

Hip-Hop History Workshop
Kick off the K–12 Hip-Hop Music Guidelines Workshop Series with a deep dive into the roots, evolution, and global impact of Hip-Hop culture. Facilitated by Unlearn The World and Queen Herawin, this interactive session explores Hip-Hop’s foundational elements—DJing, MCing, dance, graffiti, and knowledge—and their connections to social justice, identity, and education.

DJing/Beatmaking Workshop
Discover the rhythm, creativity, and technology behind Hip-Hop’s sonic foundation in this hands-on session facilitated by Dope Candi and Unlearn The World. Participants will explore the art of DJing and beatmaking through the lens of the K–12 Hip-Hop Music Guidelines, learning how to integrate these practices into classroom lessons. The workshop highlights how rhythm, sampling, and digital tools can foster collaboration, innovation, and critical listening skills among students.

Songwriting/MCing/Spoken Word
Led by award-winning artist, educator, and powerhouse Pinqy Ring, this dynamic workshop centers on Hip-Hop’s lyrical power and its ability to uplift voices, tell stories, and spark social change. Educators will learn creative approaches to teaching writing, poetry, and performance through Hip-Hop pedagogy. Participants will explore how lyricism, flow, and storytelling can enhance literacy, social-emotional learning, and student self-expression across grade levels.

Lesson Planning & Assessment Tools
In the final session, Pinqy Ring, Y?, Unlearn The World, and Dope Candi come together to guide participants in developing culturally responsive lesson plans grounded in the Hip-Hop Music Education Guidelines. This interactive workshop provides educators with practical tools for curriculum design, classroom assessment, and student engagement. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, and receive feedback from experienced Hip-Hop educators.
